Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. Article types may include: 

  • Gunsmithing techniques
  • Tool reviews/discussions
  • Reviews of firearms or ammunition
  • Op-Ed articles about the gun industry, legalities, etc. 
  • Reviews of Software or other Equipment
  • General Gunsmithing Advice, tips, or tricks. 

All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit may be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets that they do not own the rights to. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. 

Authors may submit an article from any country, but articles must be in English. Articles also must not cover any topics that are illegal in the United States at the time of publication. 

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the article is clearly presented, free from major grammatical errors, and that any processes described are clearly documented. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

NOTE: When making submissions, in the Abstract box simply write a 1-2 sentence regarding what your article is about. 

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission not owned by the author(s).

Articles

Articles are in-depth articles on gunsmithing practices. These could include: 

Teardown Instructions
Procedural Instructions (How to X)
Other similar process or technical discussions. 

Articles should be complete and comprehensive; include equipment/tools used, clear explanation of steps and reasoning, and desired outcomes. Helpful articles will also include common pitfalls or errors to be avoided. 

Reviews

This section may include author reviews for: 

Tools
Software
Guns
Ammo
Other

All reviews should be comprehensive and as unbiased as possible. 
Reviews should include (whenever possible); cost, features, benefits, drawbacks, roi, performance, comparisons, and recommendations.

Tips & Tricks

This section is for short tips, tricks, and advice that is worthy of passing on, but doesn't rise to the level of a full article. 
Tips could be something very general or very specific to a particular firearm. 

Op-Ed

This section is for Opinion and Editorial pieces.

The commentary should not mention any political parties, politicians, or similar language.
It should be academic in nature and reference specific agencies (ATF, DOJ, etc) or Specific Bills or Regulations. 
Maintaining this language ensures professional discourse. Submissions not meeting these guidelines will be immediately rejected. 

Op-Ed pieces can discuss any past, current, or proposed law, legislation, rule, regulation, or other similar topic that impacts or affects the firearms industry as a whole. 

Letter to the Editor

This section is for any Letters to the Editor, particularly inviting commentary regarding the journal itself, or previously published content.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
